Homestead
11 years ago, we bought this little farm house on close to two acres on a secluded street of similar-sized parcels right in the middle of the suburbs. I have been a suburb girl my entire life. I've never lived on a farm and I've never lived in the big city.
For the first few years we owned it, my husband lived there while we were separated. It has also always housed his art studio. When he moved back home, we kept the property and he has worked there creating his sculpture ever since.
Two years ago, we decided to see about finally making the place into our home and home base. The house as it exists is not very functional for our tiny family - my husband, our Maine Coon cat and me. Nor is it very pretty, or in my mind, very inspiring inside, what with all the clutter and the dirt and decay of the years of status quo.
We are now moving into real action. We hope to begin work on it early in the new year, if n not sooner, with a goal to move in next year as soon as possible. To get there, however, we have much work to do, including:
- Raising the roof
- Removing walls and adding others
- New windows
- New electric
- New Plumbing
- New kitchen
- New bathrooms
- New front and rear porches
- New pool
- New lease on life
